Warning signs of liver dysfunction
Liver specialist Patrick Marcellin identifies the main warning signs of liver disease that, when recognized, can require timely medical attention. These signs include:
Jaundice (yellowing):
Yellowing of the eyes and skin, which indicates a deficiency in the liver’s ability to remove bilirubin, a yellow pigment produced during the breakdown of hemoglobin.
Abdominal pain:
Regular pain in the upper abdomen, which may indicate fatty liver disease, causing lung pressure and discomfort.
Digestive system problems:
Persistent diarrhea and nausea, indicating a possible liver infection and inflammation of the lymph nodes.
Anorexia:
Recurring and unexplained loss of appetite, which may be an indication of liver cirrhosis, which requires medical consultation.
Abnormal urine color:
Black or powdery urine, as well as blood in the vomit, indicate possible liver problems and require immediate medical attention.
